SHEYE OLADEJO

For Oluwaseye Oladejo, founder of SheyeOladejo, fashion is more than just clothing, it is storytelling, artistry, and a tool for self-expression. From a childhood passion for creating accessories to running a globally recognised brand, Oladejo’s journey is a testament to following one’s calling with purpose and precision.

Born and raised in Ile-Ife, Oladejo’s introduction to design came naturally. “As a young girl, I loved creating. I used to make necklaces, and that process of starting with raw materials and using my hands to create something beautiful felt like self-expression to me,” she shares. Her early love for creating accessories laid the groundwork for her future in design. However, her path was anything but conventional.

With a degree in computer engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, Oladejo initially pursued a tech career but soon realised her creative instincts couldn’t be ignored. “I knew I would feel boxed in if I continued solely with engineering. However, my background in technology has given me an edge in design. It shaped how I approach problems, believing every problem has a solution, and influences how I work with textures and precision,” she explains.

Established in 2016, SheyeOladejo quickly carved out a niche in the luxury fashion industry by celebrating individuality and timeless elegance. “For me, it’s simple: I don’t follow trends. I design pieces that can stand the test of time, garments that tell stories about the people who wear them,” Oladejo says.

Her inspiration often stems from nature and travel, experiences that breathe life into her collections. A recent trip to Turkey profoundly influenced her approach. “While there, I observed how local businesses incorporate their resources into their products. It inspired me to look inward, to Nigeria, where we’re so rich in culture and materials. My latest collection focuses on locally sourced fabrics but with a modern twist, something wearable and innovative.”
