New York lovers, assemble, as Coach designed what can only be seen as a love letter to New York - and outerwear. Coach is in its own right a symbol of the city, yet creative director Stuart Vevers made sure the other landmarks made their appearance as he featured Zabars, Serendipity, the Brooklyn Bridge, and the Eagle Bar on handbags and T-shirts.

Vevers looked at American fashion culture, from sportswear to streetwear, and settled on fashion godmother and sportswear pioneer Bonnie Cashin for inspiration, as he opened the runway with A-line anoraks sporting houndstooth and plaid patterns and making sure his 2022 collection is a dream for the vintage-lover. A pink and yellow checked cape detailed with hardware buttons and a pastel purple leather anorak were just a few of the statement coats.

Then we dove straight back into the 1990s with boxy graphic tees, baggy calf-length shorts, low-rise jeans with the accompanying exposed boxers, and plaid skirts worn by men and women alike. We wind back 20 years further as more jeans made their way down the runway with bold flared trousers, double denim looks combined with combat boots, perfectly marrying the two aesthetics together.

The show was a celebration of New York’s fashion history, a fete of contrast as we saw Coach as we have never seen it before. According to Vevers himself, it was “how the next generation would reinterpret our heritage. This time I was looking at people who will shape our future.” If this show is anything to go by, our future is in good hands.
